This is such a lovely hotel. It has beautiful architectural details and is decorated so nicely. The rooms were big and bright, but still cozy. Bed and bedding was really comfortable. The staff was super sweet and helpful. Everything was clean and of high quality. We purchased great coffee within the hotel every morning and the rooftop pool was everything. The location wasn't amazing, but there was great food in walking distance day and night. Would definitely stay here again!
A charming hotel in the heart of L.A.. This is the second hotel I’ve visited that was once a bank in an iconic city and they did a beautiful job of keeping the original charm of the building, yet making it a comfortable and stunning place to stay. The shower was the best shower ever with the highest quality fixtures, excellent water pressure, excellent temperature, and plenty of space and nice towels and soap products. A couple of things they could improve on: the beds are very comfortable, but they are lined with a plastic layer that will make you sweat and there is no coffee maker or blow dryer in the room. If you do makeup, you might struggle because they need better lighting and a makeup mirror that pulls out from the wall. There are a few nice perks that come with a stay here: complementary glasses of wine for two (available at restaurant downstairs during dinner hours), a nice sized food credit for the restaurant, and a free dessert. Dear Chef: Please note never to serve that pudding dessert you served on December 7th again unless you change the topping. It tasted good, but the topping looked exactly like dried and toasted meal worms. I couldn’t get past it, so I could not finish it. All in all, we had a short but great stay.
This hotel was recommended for a conference I was in town for and I found staying here to be an experience over a stay. It was a short Uber drive to the convention center, but all around the hotel are lots of places to eat, and even a shopping mall within walking distance. Being an international hotel, it attracts people from around the world, and I saw that as soon as I arrived. What is unique about Hotel Per La is the history of building. It used to be a bank and you can even see the vault once you walk past the restaurant, inside the hotel. The styling is romantic, and unique. My favorite part about my room was the walk in shower, with high water pressure that you wouldn’t expect from a hotel. I hate taking a shower and trying to make sure that I rinsed out all of my hair product and it taking forever. (Sounds silly, but it’s important!) They also had a steamer in my room which I very much needed. I was thankful it wasn’t just an iron. The front desk was always readily available and always had someone there to answer my questions when they came up. It felt like I was talking to a person, not just a staff member. There is a cafe that offers espresso, a beautiful restaurant and bar area, and lots of spots throughout for sitting and reading or enjoying company. On the rooftop the pool and lounge/bar I experienced at night briefly. and from the moment I came off the elevator I was greeted, and attended to. The view from the roof is beautiful, and the atmosphere is one I would love to enjoy with friends, tho I don’t drink, it is a fun place anyone could enjoy for a night out, or a special occasion to enjoy. I was casual, and dressed up, and it seemed that no matter how I presented, I was treated equally important. The room felt charming, and had extra details I wouldn’t expect to find in a hotel. The decor and the furniture felt very intentionally NOT like a hotel. From the moment I arrived, I was not having a hotel stay. It was definitely more of an boutique hotel experience, and one that I enjoyed! My little walk about video didn’t do it justice!
High expectations but ended up being really disappointing.
(The only positive note was the friendly and helpful night porter)
We thought this hotel would be great, but it didn't live up to our expectations. We arrived early and they let us do an early check-in for both rooms, the girl at the reception was nice at the beginning.
One room was ok, but the other one smelled strongly of bleach. When we reported it, the staff said the smell would go away and acted like they did us a favor with the early check-in. We would have patiently waited until the regular check-in time, even if the room wasn't ready, as they weren't obligated to give us the room early. So we ended up waiting past the check-in time for another room.
When we went back, I explained the staff the situation and that we only needed to get the key since we already did the check-in but the girl was confused. Surely lack of handover between colleagues.
A guy stepped in, saying that they had switched our room in number… As I was getting on the elevator, he said that there was a mistake with the room number and he gave me another one without explaining why (maybe he noticed our explore rate?). In any case, not nice. The room was noticeably worse and smaller and the drip of the shower was really irritating we had to close the bathroom door in the night.
Not to mention that the pool in the rooftop was almost cold, we found one warmer at an Hampton Inn.
The destination fee was $50 per day, offering daily benefits like a $35 food and beverage credit, one dessert per room, and a complimentary drink... Guess what? No one informed us that the drink had a specific serving time, and initially, they didn’t want to serve us because we came later. We went to the reception to address this, and the guy who had changed up our room number replied, "They should have told you at check-in." This frustrated us even more, such a service lapse is not normal, and we already missed out on these benefits the day before because we didn’t have time.
The staff in general was unprofessional, for example the girl at the restaurant reception kept touching her hair and laughing while looking at her phone. We work in higher-category hotels, and witnessing such behavior in a 5-star hotel is absurd.
The rooms are exceedingly small but clean and quiet. Very quiet. You would expect at least a couple bottles of water but no. The electrical outlets built into the nightstands didn't work and the light switches are almost impossible to figure out. The bar is outstanding and food better than average. We didn't use the rooftop but it is very cool. We would return there again.
Definitely does not qualify as a 5-star hotel in terms of service and amenities.
Service: 1/ they offered complimentary dessert for guests, but it takes pretty long to pick it up from the restaurant. 2/ The room service hotline often does not go through and the waiting time is long during night time. Never experienced that in other 5-star hotels. 3/ they charge $35 food and beverage credit, which kinda forces you to use their restaurant or offer in-room dining.
Amenities: 1/ they don’t have any coffeemakers or coffeemachine or teamaker in the room… 2/ no ice machine anywhere - you have to ask for ice. 3/ the AC/heater is not efficient - we felt cold for a good 2 hours after turning it on with high fan and high temp. 3/ room is pretty small. 4/ Ever since I entered the room, I started coughing heavily and felt shortness of breath. I suspect the ventilation in the room isn’t good enough. 5/ bed and pillow are too soft for us. The mattress feels like something that you could usually find in 3-star hotels.
Overall, I wouldn’t stay here again.
Avoid the food! Room was very small, but clean. Had to ask for a coffeemaker, no desk - just an odd table next to couch at the wrong height. I travel often and can overlook all of that...but not the terrible food via room service. Called front desk and eventually spoke with F & B mgr...multiple times. Apparently they they assumed I was just looking for a free meal as they harassed me 3-4 times to pick up the food I didn't eat. F & B mgr said he would remove the charge from my bill, but that did not happen. Had to call them again, wait on hold...and again be promised that it would be removed. Seriously, is this so hard to fix?
The hotel is beautiful with nice views and quiet for good sleep at night time. The bathtubs in the room are amazing and a huge plus. They have this old Italian style that makes you feel you are actually in Italy. Have stayed here three times and all have been awesome! Great and friendly service, DQ, Dante, and Sarah in front desk are all around awesome welcoming people. The rooftop pool and bar were awesome as well as the downstairs bar. Love the complimentary drinks and dessert. Rooms are clean, comfy beds, good space to move around. All around a great experience, thanks PerLa!
